The annual carnival was held on 4th August, 1956. Twenty-six teams were entered, coming from as far afield as Bega. Monaro High entered teams in the 6.7, 7.7, 8.7, and openweight divisions.
The 6.7 team was defeated in the first round by Delegate, 5-3.
By defeating Jindabyne, 6-0 in the first round the Monaro 7.7 team entered the semi finals but was defeated by Bega, 12-0.
In the 8.7 division Monaro was more successful; their score against Bega was 3-3, but as Monaro scored first they were judged the winners and went on to defeat Brigidine Convent, 11-6 and win the division.
The M.H.S. openweight team defeated Bombala 30-0, but were themselves defeated by Bega, 2-0. This was a well-fought, hard match, and some good football was seen.
It was pleasing to see that the trophies of the day were distributed among a number of schools, and of course Monaro was very pleased to retain the 8.7 trophy for the second year.
