Kunama 1956

The Bus

The noise was deafening in our ears,
The sound of talk, the sound of cheers,
The steady purring of the engine,
The high-pitched notes of girls a-singing.
For what could anyone expect?
It was still twenty miles as yet
Until it reached our destination,
The bus, our means of education.

JANETTE McGUFFICKE, 2A
