On Friday, 25th October the Fifth Year of 1957 was farewelled at a dinner and a social, prepared by fourth year, helped by Mr. Lockley and Miss Burmeister, the home science teacher.
The pupils and staff and guests entered and sat down at a table spread with plenty of good food. The meal consisted of a cold salad dinner, followed by an ice-cream and jelly dessert.
After the meal had finished the speeches were made. All speeches were very good, and spoken with sincerity. Of the staff, Mr. Laughlin, Mr. Sheil, and Mr. Gaut made speeches. Of the pupils, the Captains David Hain and Anne Hogan, the Vice-Captains, Karen Bein and George Demmler, Fourth Year pupils and hosts Fairley Lang and Murray Sheil made speeches.
Frank Laidler of Fourth Year officiated as Chairman and made a very good job of it too. Everyone enjoyed the Banquet, and after it had finished, the pupils and some of the staff went to the East Camp Recreational Hall where the social was held. Here, too, everyone enjoyed themselves.
Everyone agreed that, on the whole, the night was very successful.
