Kunama 1957

Ode to the Sea

Foam-edged and dancing, I see you, 0 sea,
You ebb and you flow like a strange melody.
Above you the gulls cry and wing on their way,
But you are as timeless as a long summer day.
The warm golden hush of the late afternoon
Has lulled you, has warmed you, has vanished too soon.
Now in the sunset I see you blood red,
Your depths are reflecting a day that is dead;
Dusk failing softly dispels the last light,
Give up your glory, and yield to the night!
Dark-depthed and treacherous, I see you, 0 sea,
You ebb and you flow like a strange melody.
