Monaro High fielded a very strong open softball team this year. The team only played one game, but even in that short time proved that it was a force to be reckoned with. The one game the team played was against a strong Bega side at Bega. In this game the Cooma Dogs displayed much skill, showing the Bega team the finer points of the game. With David "Jenk" Jenkinson on the mound, Monaro had the advantage from the start. He pitched and fielded well, working a good combination with Jimmy Millner at catcher. The fielding was excellent throughout, giving Richard Spain the diminutive first baseman, plenty of opportunity to prove his true worth to theteam. The batting was also outstanding, with Robert Jones doing a lot damage to the Bega pitcher's reputation. The score ended up 41-28 to Monaro, who were well on top throughout - in all departments. After the game, a well known South coast authority on thegame said that the Monaro side was the best he'd seen come out of Monaro High in many years. Special thanks must go to the coach, Mr Goodison, for his time and effort throughout the year.
